Sorry, Philosophy

Posted on Tuesday 11 December 2007

The mind .. mmm.. so fun to use, so fun to exercise... Thinking is an awesome thing. Endless thought problems, infinite loops, logical argument, self contemplation... Very nice. Philosophers have a clarity of mind and a focus that consistently impresses me. But they rest somewhere between reality and fiction... in a grey area that has been the source of quite a few social gems over the millenniums.

It's starting to feel less and less like the mine has run dry, and more and more like the mine doesn't exist.

When people discovered the new world, how did they reason that the world was round? Did it happen overnight? Was their disbelief? It's not like improvements are today where things are more evolutionary than revolutionary. Learning the earth is round, especially to men who dedicated their life to that belief, the scientists and scholars, is a foundational shift.

Was there suicide? Did careers end? Who knows.

Obsolete practices die hard.

I for one welcome our new physicist overlords.
