In this calm before the storm... or rather less serious storm before the worse storm, I want to say thank you.  Thank you to the Americans who believed in this country and gave their time and work, and in some cases their lives to sustain our way of life and our freedom.   Mostly to those who have been more faithful to their ideals and their perception of the world than they have been to the rules and general order of things.

These idealists not only created our way of life, but they have perpetuated it through the ages.  And we are lucky for it.  So thanks.  Thanks for passing this country down from generation to generation, making sure your ideas make a lasting impression on our society and our people.   To the judges who defend the constitution, to the people who stand up for what they believe in and hold their integrity and oaths dear.  You truly are America's greatest assets.

As we lose our economic dominance on the world, we will feel pain.  Our way of life will change.  People in power will play on our fears and will follow their own interests and not ours.  We must remember in the hard times to come that this is America.  We must remember what that means.  Do not be cynical, but have hope.  Our nation is not dead until the last of us are.
