[Code] Dear Spammers by Michael @ 01/15/06 11:34:57 PM

Dear People Who Are Spamming My Blog,

You either need to RAMP IT UP so that I'll build in more anti-spam stuff into bN.. or you need to cut it out.  also, i dont know what CMS you think this is but [url] doesn't work.  so STOP USING IT ITS SO GHEY.

What anti-spam techniques do my legit readers think are the most effective?  Should i use bayesian filtering?  Or is that too much?  Just make people log in?  One of those dumb "what letters are in this image" thingies?  Or what.  They all seem ghey.  I wish spammers would just die.. that sounds easier.

well... do you really think, that a single crawler cares of your post above?
--> i think these spammers should just get thrown into prison... those bastards.

btw: no problem with wordpress and spam, since comment-moderation is enabled...

iroybot: Akismet for WordPress is very effective and does not require comment moderation by the administrator.

Mikey G: Why not just start with a basic filter that preprocesses the comments before the get posted using a sort of blacklist that you can compare to?

iroybot: i agree with the prison thing.. and i think at least 2 people care... and people matter more than crawlers.. though last I checked my blog was pretty high in the popular ones. Currently i can go in and remove comments people have made using a comment management tool but this is the bare minimum.

ksh: I was thinking of something similar to this.. a kind of adjustable cocktail of scans and auto-learning filters.. but it seems more complicated than it could be... I'm trying to come up with something that's not resource intensive and covers as many bases as possible. Running text for my blog through something like spamd is trivial.. but if a big site or client picks up bN, it could get ugly.. even just checking for keywords or things of that nature..

The war has begun! My co-worker rob suggested that I smack the hell out of the spammers with the pimphand known as a session cookie. And I've started work on integrating SpamAssassin into bN .. but it's going to take some extra memory. Let's see if this has any impact on the kiddies.
