[Politics] war and what of it by Michael @ 03/17/03 09:39:00 PM

War. never has the word weighed so much on my soul. George Bush quelled the worries of many citizens with his direct, and sound statements. The stock markets are jumping, and everything seems to be getting under way.

Perhaps it was the uncertainty of it all that made me uneasy. But I think it's more.

When you pay taxes in a free soceity to your government, you feel you are making your contribution, and therefore should take an equal part of the responsibility. I know there is enough red tape out there to make sure it never could be proven or happen, but I feel I am entitled to a bit of the blame. And I feel every tax paying citizen is entitled to it too.

As our tax dollars rain down on civilians in the form of bombs, we will be here in our SUV's complaining about rising gas prices and the increased cost of health care. We will go on "orange alert" for a week or so as a terrorist attack is "a probability" in the next 48 hours. Our guided bombs and missiles will rain down and surgically (as they can) destroy military targets. Or the nation will surrender, and then we'll have some serious work to do with foreign relations.

Either way, if history repeats itself, there will be far worse times than the current. And all we can do is hope and pray that this is the right solution to a problem that has festered uncontrollably for years.

The US should have done the right thing and followed through with this when our troops were still there.

God bless every person of every nation.

May peace come swiftly.

i'm afraid. there is something in the USA people dna that make think they can rule the world. more! they thing they are allowed by all of us to do this! but we dind't asked USA to protected us. at least, i dind't. we're saying here in Brazil that the real interest of Bush is not peace or petrol. his interest in all this is to see who is at his side, and supposed to be his soldiers (like UK, and Spain), and who's not (like France and Germany). it is possible!. you just see the Jerusalem conflict that is longing for years. there are terrorists too, with weapons, bomb-cars and bomb-mans, but USA just try peace dialogs. but in Iraq things are different. why? it is simple! after war, USA intends to rule there, and them, they may start another conquering battles in that region. from Iraq to kwait, and then from turkey, and then from everywhere near. later, the next step will be north korea, and china,... USA will never stop. the problem is that from now on, USA will try to rule more and more. it is their DNA! please, unite. i don't want to fight USA. but we can't leave they act this way. where is the american democracy now? where is their freedom right? Bush left all this behind and will use brute force. the americans became want they always said they fight with. i hope better days for WE all. but not for US >:)

Excuse me? Which problem has festered for years? What "right thing" should the usa have done when our troops were still there? Why does the usa have any right to decide the leader of a sovereign nation? don't kid yourself. it's all about the oil.

I think Jello Biafra (who has been curiously absent from the world of spoken word for quite a while) put it most succinctly when he said that all of these problems might not exist today if the US had just left Iran alone in the 1950's.
